My Inspiration

Three key events were the impetus behind creating Shopping for a Change™. As I was about to turn 50 years old, I began contemplating how I was going to leave this world a better place than when I arrived. Concurrently, my son’s seventh-grade class was partaking in a year-long philanthropic project which became awe-inspiring for us all. That same year, during the trip of a lifetime to The Galapagos Islands and Peru, I witnessed the plight of hunger and poverty that was prevalent throughout these regions. Realizing, but for an accident of birth, it could have been me living under these conditions, I arrived home, no longer the same individual as when I departed. The experience left me aching to develop a means of utilizing my creative talents along with my professional experience to combat this widespread crisis.
Shopping for a Change™ is a business model that provides work for marginalized groups of artisans, a means for marketing their products, and a bilateral program that (1) provides resources for the betterment of their communities, and (2) provides added revenue for U.S. based nonprofit organizations, at no cost to them.
Our website went live in September 2010. We invite you to become a supportive member of our community. Please shop our site for yourself and others; encourage nonprofit organizations with whom you're affiliated, to enroll in our fundraising program to boost their revenue; share your expertise with us by volunteering your services; and make direct donations to support our organization’s mission.
We can’t do our work without you.
Good health and well being for all,
Stacey
