Founded in 2010 by Liz Forkin Bohannon, Sseko Designs in an ethical fashion brand created to empower women to overcome poverty by pursuing a university education. By providing safe, fair-wage employment to Ugandan women, Sseko Designs allows employees to earn and save money for tuition. Sseko Designs matches 100% of an employee’s savings giving them even greater ability to afford a college education. In a country where 70% of women live below the poverty line and only 2% of women attend university, Sseko Designs ensures that high potential women pursue their dreams and gives them the opportunity to end the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families. To date Sseko Designs has enabled 71 women to continue on to university through their nine-month University Bound program. The company staffs a full-time Veteran Team of 50 women, the majority of who are managers, team leaders, and mentors. In addition to serving women in Uganda, Sseko Designs partners with artisans across East Africa.
