Jenny Krauss’s story is a classic: she visited Peru in 2008, met a highly skilled group of women artisans, fell in love with the Peruvian embroidery techniques, bought a few belts to bring back to the states… and the rest is history. Today, Jenny employs 1600 artisans who create these beautifully embroidered belts, purses, and pillows. Not only have these Peruvian women’s stunning work influenced Jenny and her business greatly, Jenny has been an equally positive force in the artisans’ lives. Living in such remote areas as the Peruvian Andes, the women have few other opportunities for work, so Jenny’s project has become critical to earning a sustainable income and supporting their families. Jenny Krauss operates using fair trade guidelines, meaning that artisans “earn a living wage, have a safe working environment, and are not subject to workplace pollutants or toxins… [or] child labor.”
